Hartford, Conn. (WTNH) - The annual "Trouble in Toyland" list of unsafe toys was released today.

The list includes toys that contain excessive levels of lead, toxic chemicals like phalates or BPA, and those that pose a choking hazard.

"We all know that toddlers put everything in their mouths," said Jenn Hatch, ConnPIRG.

Hatch says parents can even do their own safety tests.

"We find that if you can fit the toy through an empty toilet paper roll, it's too small for a child under the age of three," she said.

Attorney General Richard Blumenthal says that toy-related injuries sent more than 90,000 children to the emergency room in 2009, many because of a lack of parental supervision.

"So many injuries resulting from toys are preventable, should be prevented by parents taking responsibility," Blumenthal said.
